Diamonds

diamond rings
To the ancient Greeks, diamonds were ‘the tears of the Gods.’ The Roman’s described them as ‘splinters of fallen stars.’

No stone has inspired so much wonder, magic and emotion as the diamond, the most coveted of all gemstones. It is no wonder that it is a universal symbol of love, passion and never-ending devotion. Whether celebrating a new love or a lasting one, a special occasion or just to say ‘I love you’ - Morgan Jewelers can help you find the perfect stone to celebrate that special moment.

The 4C’s of Diamond Selection

Like a snowflake, every diamond is unique unto itself. However, each stone can be measured by 4, defining characteristics:

emerald cut diamondCut
A well-cut diamond reflects light within itself and through the top of the diamond. Expert diamond cutters meticulously carve, or facet, these raw gems into the shape and dimensions that best highlight its natural beauty and release the fire within its depths. A truly fine cut diamond has a fire and brilliance that seems to light up a room.

pear shaped diamondColor
The most popular diamond is the colorless, or white, diamond. Color is graded on a scale from D, or colorless, down to Z. Diamonds also come in a variety of other, ‘fancy,’ colors such as yellow, pink, and black.

asscher diamondClarity
All diamonds have naturally occurring inclusions that develop during the stone’s formation. These inclusions directly affect the stones ability to reflect light and thus, it’s brilliance. The number, size and visibility of these inclusions determine the clarity of a diamond. Clarity ranges from Internally Flawless to inclusions readily visible to the naked-eye.

briolette diamondCarat
The size, or weight, of all precious stones, including diamonds, is measured in carats. A carat is equal to 0.2 grams and is divided into 100 ‘points.’

Morgan Jewelers offers a wide selection of diamond settings and loose stones. Visit the online store or contact us for help finding your perfect diamond.

Colored Gemstones

Gemstones come in all colors of the rainbow. From ruby red to emerald green, the possibilities for self-expression are as endless as the range of colors of these rare stones. Like diamonds, the value of a colored gemstone is also determined by its color, cut and clarity. Gemstones can be divided into two categories: precious and semi-precious.

Precious Gemstones

gemstones

Emerald     |      Ruby     |     Sapphire

The most widely known and valued of all colored stones, these are some of the rarest and most sought after of all colored gemstones. From deep blue sapphires, to pigeon-blood rubies, to the sparkling green depths of an emerald, Morgan Jewelers has a wide selection of precious gemstones to select from and mount in the setting of your choice or design.

Semi-Precious Gemstones

The term ‘semi-precious’ is somewhat misleading when referring to this rainbow of gemstones as some of the rarer specimens of this category of gems may be valued far above that of a lesser quality ruby, sapphire or emerald.

scarab stones

Semi-precious gemstones come in a limitless array of colors, cuts and clarities. Some of the more commonly-known semi-precious stones include:

Amethyst  |  Aquamarine  |  Citrine
Garnet  |  Opal  |  Pearl  |  Peridot
Tanzanite  |  Topaz  |  Tourmaline
